The Final Stand

Lets move out, before more show up. The nearest town is west, so we should head that way. What do you think?

Satisfied that no more Marauders were coming, the trio relaxed. But their peace was soon interrupted by a boom as a fireball shot through the sky, landing in the woods nearby. The three were blasted by a heat wave that nearly knocked them back. Okami shook himself off, barking non-stop. Shira and Kusa gathered themselves back together. "The hell was that!?" Shira shouted. Kusa looked only slightly disconcerted, explained, "Perhaps a meteorite... But a relatively small one, if so. For some reason, it makes me curious... Shall we investigate?" Okami's response was an excited bark and loping over to their sides. Shira chuckled, nodded at Okami and said, "I've learned it's best to do what a wolf that's nearly as tall as us says." With that, the three climbed up five feet of the Wolf's grey and silver fur. Okami set off at an easy run, which was rather fast for so large a creature.

It was not long before they arrived at the edge of a crater the size of a good ravine. But what they found was no hunk of rock and ice from space; it was a metallic vessel of sorts that appeared to once have flying capabilities. Half of it was missing, they noticed. Shira spoke lowly over his shoulder with a sense of caution, "I'm gonna go down to check it out. See if there's anything in there... Or anyone." He slid off Okami's back and down into the crater. He used his momentum to get up into a jog to the entrance. He called back up, "I found a girl! I think she's still alive, but she definitely got roughed up from that landing! It's a miracle she didn't fall out... No seatbelts, and she woulda slammed into the ground somewhere else and shattered like a jar. I'll get her back up there, just gimme a sec!"

Arrows whirred by as eight infantrymen and two archers chased after the mage into a nearby forest. Two of these projectiles hit her wings, disabling them. Cursing, Melissa chanted a spell, and pointed her staff backwards as she ran. A bolt of lightning materialized, and struck a soldier, electrocuting him. She chanted another spell, and a small iceberg crushed the archers and another infantryman, but not before an arrow dug into one of the girl's legs, causing her to fall down.
"Ugh," she moaned, as she hit the frozen ground.
The soldiers, triumphant, approached the fallen mage. Melissa, desperate, pointed her staff and shouted "Flame!". A massive fireball was conjured, and it incinerated three of the remaining six soldiers. But before she could utter one more word, one of the remaining three soldiers sprinted up to her and, tearing a strip of cloth from the tunic under his armor, gagged the mage.
"MMMPH!" she said, muffled by the cloth. The other two infantrymen calmly walked up to Melissa, produced rope, and despite her constant flailing, tied her hands to the side of her waist and bonded her legs together. Once this was completed, one of the soldiers took the mage by her waist, lifted her onto one of his shoulders, much like how one carries a rocket launcher, and began to trek back to Dwentor. As the soldiers walked, they discussed Melissa.
"Man, was that mage one hell of a pain to capture, or what? We lost seven men," one of them said.
"Yeah. I guess I understand why the bounty on her is so high. But, I wonder what Sir Volverein wants her for?" another soldier said.
"Probably as one of his pet mages, you two saw what she did to Freddy and James," the infantryman carrying Melissa said.
"Yep," Soldier one and two said. Melissa shivered. She would rather die, than serve that monster.
"I mean, really, she has the talent to even become one of the Four Lords if she was to jo-"
Crack. The second soldier fell to the ground, blood oozing out of a small hole in his helmet.
'Who's there?" Soldier one said, cautiously. Crack. He, too, also fell, this time with a metallic slug visibly lodged in his forehead.
The third soldier dropped Melissa and made a run for it, but the mysterious attacker hit him too, the gunshot ringing in the air for a few seconds. Melissa fell onto her stomach, and could see nothing but the frigid earth for a few minutes. Then, all of a sudden, the mage felt her rope bonds loosening. She freed her arms, turned herself over, and was greeted by a man garbed in red clothing.
"Hello," he said. "I'm Lyle. Are you okay?"

A black clad stranger stood before Scourge and the Doctor. The doctor was so taken aback, that he dropped his ventriloquist-corpse on the lap of the soldier, who squirmed in disgust, still frozen in fear.
"Leave him alone" Stated the black clad stranger to the doctor. He commanded with such authority that Faustus tor his attention away from his would-be victim. The stranger gave a loo, as if to say 'Die, you immoral Abomination,' before rushing at the Doctor. Scourge, leaped into action, catching the stranger's foot on the blade of his scythe, tripping him, forcing him to the ground. The Doctor had the soldier held at knife point, and Scourge was on the stranger's back, pinning his neck down to the ground with his scythe.

In a last-ditch effort, the stranger muttered something, launching the Doctor, Scourge, and himself into a spacial warp. A great pull, as if by a strong gravity scattered them around the pitch-black tunnel of the warp. Time moved oddly in this place, impossible to gauge. It could have been seconds, hours, days, months, years, inside the tunnel, but they were all dropped out at different places in less than a split second of leaving. Scourge fell, smashing into the ground, from nowhere, disoriented. All he noticed were two people, a tech-heavy adventurer, and another one, who emanated the great power. He looked around his surroundings. A couple towns in opposite directions. Scourge had a quick guess at what they were, and he grimaced at his thought. The only thing worse than tourists: they appeared to be questors. People who thought some heaven-sent task could save their lives, or their families or whatever. Life wasn't like that. He knew that better than most.

He turned to leave them behind before realizing that he had no idea where in the world he was. He staggered back to the two questors, and through gritted teeth, managed to squeeze out the words "Where the hell are we?" Grimacing at relying on questors to help him out.

"I just got here myself. Lemme guess, you hate us because we're adventurures and think what we're doing is pointless. In any case, if you want directions, talk to him. he seems to know everything with his computers and stuff." Minby tried to feel if this stranger was a chosen one, but felt nothing. "Say, what's your name?"

"Yeah- who the hell are you?" Td260 said with a puzzled look on his face.
"Never mind. We're about half a day's walk from the nearest town. It's small, but has a weapon shop and a forge, where we can restock." Td260 said dejectedly.
Who is this guy? Raiden whispered.
"I don't know," Td whispered back, "but i don't like the look of him..."

Kisen opened the door to his guild. Bodies lay strewn left and right, some with arrows in them, some headless, and some burnt beyond recognition. This scene was similar to another, one that happened ten years ago.... Kisen shook his head. That was a long time ago. Returning to the task at hand, the knight located and opened the door to Benett's, the leader of the thieves' guild, chambers, and stepped inside. There, he was greeted by a wounded Benett, who was pointing a sword at him,
"Who are you? Have you came to kill me and take the girl?" he said, just before falling to the ground. Kisen rushed up to his side.
"Benett!" he cried. "What happened here?"
"Kisen," Benett said. " Imperial soldiers came....wiped us all out, just to try to get.... Nicole......"
"Who's Nicole?"
"A girl..... we found on the plains.... a few weeks ago.... Ugh..."
"Benett? Benett! Who called the soldiers?"
"Je....re....mi....ah," he said. Then, his head lolled, and Benett died.
"Dammit.... I swear, I will kill that man!" Kisen said, pissed. He stormed out of the room, and, after finding no survivors in the other rooms, departed the guild. As he left the building, he spied a woman, unwounded but unconscious, lying on the ground, behind a bush. The paladin walked over to her, and checked her pulse. It was faint, but he could feel it. Kisen picked up the lady, and brought her to the bottom of the mountain, where he camped for the night.

After hearing Mimby say "Lemme guess, you hate us because we're adventurures and think what we're doing is pointless." he replied, rather snarkily "got it in one guess." He dropped the tone and continued, "You are the ones who hope everything will fall into place on a long-shot. I'm the type who settles for the realistic approach, which is often the best you can hope to ever get. I'm Scourge, and don't bother telling your names, I could care less." He started down the road. "Half a day's walk... why couldn't I have landed in a casino town..." he muttered under his breath

"Finally, someone else who likes speed." Minby pointed at the ground and a blue hole appeared. "Jump in if you wanna get there quickly." He said as he jumped in.

Shira looked at the carnage of the ship. He saw busted-out screens, knobs and switches. Everything was metal, even the seats. There was a window that was now badly cracked, and the girl was strapped into a harness. He fumbled with the little locks, and eventually found out how to unlock them by pressing two little buttons and pulling them out of the sockets. He slung the girl over her shoulder, and clambered back out into the craggy crater, strewn with metal fragments. Getting in had been easy. Getting out would be another matter. He got down on all fours, making sure the girl didn't fall off. He slowly struggled his way up the jagged slope, but it got more difficult as the slope curved more steadily upward. He eventually snarled with the effort, being very careful not to fall or to let his charge fall. Eventually, he felt Okami's jaws grab his hand. Okami stepped back, pulling Shira to safety with him. He laid the girl down on the ground.
Kusa kneeled down to inspect the stranger's vitals. He checked her pulse and put his hand to her forehead. "She doesn't have a fever, and her pulse is normal for someone who's unconscious, but I'm glad we brought her up outta there. Who knows what might've happened to her left alone in this part of the woods? C'mon, let's find a doctor in one of the cities.

"hmm well at least it wasn't hard to find a town" Keith said as he walked towards Serinside


reaching the city gates Keith asked a guard where a good inn was at.
After getting directions, he quickly found the place.
he got a room, put his backpack down, at decided to look around and see if Trinity had shown up.
Keith decided to go and check around the city walls. he walked towards the walls and climbed the steps to the top. hetook a look through his binoculars. he saw something very strange. it looked like a guy and a wolf with something on his back. Keith quickly realized who that could be. he could reconize that golden hair anywhere. he ran down the steps and out the gates towards the guy and his wolf.

"Who are you? Why did you save me?" Melissa asked, scared.
"As I said, my name is Lyle," the man said. "I'm a mercenary sniper. And as for why I saved you? I feel that the empire has no buisness capturing pretty ladies like yourself."
"...Are you serious? You killed those three soldiers because I LOOK nice? Are you crazy?"
"No, I killed them for another reason. However, let's not speak of this here. My camp is nearby. Can you walk?"
Melissa tried to get up, but fell, as an arrow went through her left leg earlier.
"Actually, can you get me my staff? I think one of the soldiers had it." she said.
"You mean this one?" Lyle said, producing her staff.
"Yeah, thanks," Melissa replied, when the sniper gave her said staff. Melissa placed the tip of the staff on the hole, and muttered, "Heala". When she removed the staff, the hole on her leg vanished. The mage got up and spoke.
"Lead the way, Lyle." she said.
Lyle walked into the woods, and led Melissa to a nearby clearing, where a velvet tent was pitched. The sniper entered the tent, and reemerged with two cushions.
"Here, have a seat," he said. Reluctantly, Melissa sat down on one of the cushions, while Lyle sank onto the other one.
"Now, you wanted to know why I killed those soldiers, right?" he said. "Well, you see, I'm wanted, like you are. The empire, though, believes that I'm dead, however. The first soldier I killed had seen me, so he had to die, along with the other ones, because they saw him die."
"But, then why didn't you kill me?" Melissa asked.
"Because, A: you were obviously not a soldier, and B: I don't hurt women."
"Oh. So now what?"
"Well, I was thinking that since the soldiers have returned from their hunting trip, I should go to Jogonho. You're welcome to come with me."
"Well, since my wings are damaged, and I need to get out of this area for a while, I guess I'll go. When do we leave?"
"Tomorrow," Lyle said. He took out something from inside his tent and gave it to Melissa. "Here. This is my spare tent. You can use it for a while. Goodnight."
Without another word, he crawled into his tent and fell asleep. The mage quickly set up the tent, crawled into it, and also lied down for a while. Eventually she too fell victim to the temporal abyss that is sleep.

Whispers spread through the crowd. Followed by declarations and shouts. "What's he doing?" "The Madman!" "Hey it's that one kid." "omgwtf bbq". It finnally caught the General's attention. "Hey you! Stop right there!" But it was too late. Lenny had already raised his knife-equipped hand. He threw it straight toward Volverein as the General yelled out a warning to the man. Every eye in the army followed the trail of the knife. Volverein turned around just in time for the knife to stab him. Right into the heart it flew, and Volverein looked down, then fell down. The right hand man was dead. Shock overcame the place. For almost half a minute, there wasn't a sound. Lenny had just enough time to put a blessing over his shield for the battle that would soon come.

Lenny made the first move. He stabbed a guy next to him with his spear. Then it all went to chaos. He had taken down two more men before getting a nasty cut to his leg. A block here, a stab there, Leonard had taken out 5-6 more people and had taken some heavy damage. He knew he couldn't take much more. And just when all hope was lost, Volverein rose up, and removed the knife from his chest. (Not the saving grace Lenny needed)

Wow that man really doesn't have a heart.

That's when Lenny got knocked on the head. As he started to fade he heard "I want him living. Well, close to it."

-Keshikite Mountain Pass-
After kindling a fire, the knight placed the girl in the tent, and went hunting. When Kisen returned, dead buck in tow, she was warming her hands over the fire.
"Ah, so you're awake," he said, dropping the buck and beginning to skin it.
"Wh-where am I...?" the girl mumbled.
"You're at the base of the Keshkite Mountain Pass. The thieves' guild is up this path here," Kisen said, pointing towards the trail.
"And the thieves? What became of them?"
"... Dead. All of them. What happened?"
"The imperial soldiers came. They were looking for me, and apprently also had an order to eliminate the thieves. Benett sent me outside before they could attack, but the soldiers were too strong. As the last of those valorous thieves were slain, I saw another thief, one I had never seen before, coming up the trail. The soldiers charged at him, and he managed to kill 5 of them, but the rest of the imperials surrounded him... Then there was a huge light, and... I guess I passed out."
"Ah, sorry then. I was the one who made that light."
"You did that?"
"Yes. Anyways, do you remember why the imperial soldiers are after you?," the knight asked.
"No. In fact, I can't remember anything from before 3 weeks ago, except that my name is Nicole, and I'm looking for a man with orange-tinted hair."
"Well then, since I need to go looks for someone as well, why don't we both head to Turgwon? There's no point in staying here any longer than need be."
"Ok... I guess... By the way, what's your name?" Nicole asked, curious.
"Kisen," the man replied, now cleaning the fat off of the meat. They did not speak another word that night, given both time to think about the conversation. In the morning, the two new companions departed to Turgwon.

The light was shining brilliantly as it hit the impulses that would generate... Swirling around the vast amount of tree's and rocks that covered the terrain. More light, more power, more electricity that filled the air with energy. It's power was usually subjected to striking the earth and causing chaos. However, when fitted inside of a human body, it could be controlled and tamed, used for the most beautiful showing of ones true talents and abilities.

Of course, within the heart of the warrior that could control lightning was pure darkness and hatred for such living masses known as human beings. He was one himself, but cut every link he had with them for over 50 years. It was such things he hated of their very nature. You could say he was bitter from his past, but he cared not how others viewed his opinions. In his mind, he was right and by no means would there be justification from anyone else besides him.

The man, although he looked as a mere teenager, stopped his training and looked over a ledge of one of the mountains he was perched on. Below, he could barely make out a different colored structure in the middle of a field. It didn't fit right, and it most certainly wasn't there before. He snarled, sensing the energy they possessed. "What are they doing here? So close to my home?"

Ephraim quickly went back over to a cave, picked up a garment and put it on. Something wasn't right. He had been in these mountains for years and only curious adventurers had been foolish enough to come through here. Ephraim knew of what was happening throughout the land but hardly cared. He was growing tired of human life, however... And knew his time to strike fear into their very souls was coming far to close.

Ephraim made a sly grin as he made his decent from his perch. Moving his hands about very swiftly and fluently, he aimed them at the sky as clouds began to form. A huge clash of thunder and lightning filled the sky and region with noise and wondrous sights. At least to the man anyway, he knew most people were afraid of lightning. He, on the other hand, found it to be one of the most magnificent things ever to grace earths life.

And now I move on to a different story. A man by the name of James Beckham. James is a skilled crossbow sniper and a fearless adventurer. He had already explored most of Jawari by the time he left his teens. One day, as he was exploring near Serinside, something caught his eye.

"Wow a wolf, in Serinside. That looks like it may even be one of those ancient Giant Wolf races. There's no way I'm going to miss out and meeting one of them. Aw man I wish I brought a camera. I wonder if I can get an autograph. Or a footprint or something, I wonder if he can talk..."

And on he went as the curious man jumped off a building to meet this wolf. Oh yea, I forgot to mention that James is equipped with wings and can glide and all that cool junk.

Melissa jolted awake at the sound of lightning. Drowsy from sleep, she crawled out of her tent, to investigate. Lyle was already out there, examining a scorch on the ground. He was so absorbed in his thoughts that he apparently didn't notice Melissa getting out of the tent.
"It can't be HER, so that leaves just one possibility...!" he muttered. The sniper turned around. "Hey, lady, get your weapons ready."
"Lyle? What's going on?" Melissa asked.
"No time to explain, just get them," he replied, as he went back into his tent and retrieved his sniper rifle. While Melissa went into her tent to get her staff, Lyle placed his rifle on the ground and dropped onto his stomach. He used the scope to scan the mountains, until he found a man with blonde hair running down one of them. By then, the mage had her staff and had returned to his side.
"So, now what?" she asked
"Hold on." Lyle replied. Returning to his scope, he swiftly moved the scope down to the man's legs. Holding his breath, Lyle counted down mentally.
Three...
Two...
One...
Lyle pulled the trigger.

Okami sniffed the wind and caught the scent of two human males and crouched down, bristling, baring his teeth and snarling. Shira saw Okami's signal and drew his katana from its sheathe slung across his shoulder with his right hand, and the dagger from his waist with his left. Kusa chanted a prayer and his hands glowed with Blue Fire. As the two figures grew ever nearer, Shira saw one had wings and the other had a rapier at his waist. Neither had their weapons drawn, so the trio slowly relaxed and put away their weapons. The girl resting on Okami's back caught the attention of the man with a rapier, who, upon closer inspection, wore a blue headband, and black-and-blue clothing. He demanded, "Return her to me, and do her no harm!"
Shira, ever the hothead, was the first to respond. "Did you pull her out of a wrecked ship, and out of a crater, saving her from certain death by either the elements or the Marauders? No. So who the hell are you to say I should turn her over?"
The man responded rather crossly, "She's my partner. Our ship blew apart in the sky, hence why you probably only saw half a ship. I can even show you the wreckage if you don't believe me. Now, bring her to me."
Kusa thought about what to say with care. "...If you show us your half of the ship, we'll believe you and entrust the girl to your care. Now, may I inquire as to your identity? I'm Kusanagi, and my... Protective friend here, is Shira. The Giant Wolf is Okami. He doesn't bite if he likes you. Right now, it might just be a good idea not to get too close though."
The man relaxed his expression, pleasantly surprised by this other boy's hospitality, answered in kind, "I'm Keith. And her name's Trinity," he said, indicating the unconscious woman laid across Okami's back.

The man with wings finally arrived and touched down, running towards Okami. Before the Wolf could respond, he was having his head hugged, petted and rubbed. Okami nearly reared up in surprise. The odd person looked wildly at the three men standing there and practically begged for something of Okami's, rambling about how rare a creature this was, especially so far south in the Sinarra Plains. Eventually Shira smacked his palm to his head and groaned, exasperated, "Gah, for the love of... Fine, I'll give you a tuft of his fur. Just don't stain your pants with excitement." Shira walked over to Okami, found a small patch of loose, dead fur, plucked it out and handed it to the man. "There you go, you have your souvenir. Anything else you want?" The man put his hands together, holding the little patch of fur, excited as a child in a candy store, and pleaded, "Y-yes, could I travel with you all?" Kusa looked at Shira, then Okami, then Keith, then Trinity, and allowed, "Fine, very well, just calm down. You're annoying the hell outta everyone."

So, the group of six made their way to the gates of Serinside to rest and prepare for proof of Keith's claim.

{Back to Lenny's current predicament}

I woke up upside-down. Tied to a pole. This is not going well. I didn't kill Volverein, I got hit by a cheapshot, and now I'm captured. Why didn't they just kill me. God, my leg is killing me. So is my arm, and my chest, and my neck, and, well...my whole body is in pain. I must've taken more damage in that battle than I thought. This'll be nothing compared to what they'll do to me.

Those were the thoughts of this lad as he was carried into some dark, mysterious plaza. He heard whispers between what sounded like Volverein and the general.

The general spoke, "We had more outbreaks lately. I heard reports of a man in white armor killing 20 of the soldiers we sent after Nicole. A few men were also killed after they were sent after that mage you wanted. There are also rumors of a Giant Wolf and some stuff about a spaceship going around. Something is stirring, Volverein."

"I'm sure it's nothing worse then the things we dealt with before. A dog could kill 20 of those pathetic soldiers if it tried."

"Hey! Those are the soldiers I've trained! They're the best of the best."

"Well you can't even keep the crazy rebel soldiers in check." Volverein replied as he looked at Lenny. "My patience is growing thin with you. You go make sure those little rebels are under control, and I'll see what this little fellow knows..."

And with that the general went off, not looking too happy. Volverein approached Lenny.

"This is your last chance. If you don't tell me where your rebel friends are I'll let you go free."

Lenny spat in his face.

Volverein wiped his face and beckoned a servant. "Get me our best 'doctor'. We'll see how hard this kid is to break"

*THUD*
"Damn... that nearly split my ass in half..."
Td260 got up and looked around at his surroundings, rubbing his rear end.
"Hey... Where did Minby go?"
"UP HERE!" he yelled from the top of a house.
M:"How the hell did you get up there?" Td260 asked.
"I think that your temporal shifty thing disrupted my teleport."
"hmmm... because of the lack of a complete temporal grounding, it may be that i disrupted the space-time flow of the portal. Raiden? what do you think?"
I think that if you ever want more access into the satellite than a GPS and a telescope, you'll let me monitor the crack.exe program.
"Ok, ok."

Shaking his head to get rid of the daze of falling onto the ground, Td260 looked around.
"well, here we are. about a day and a half away form the semi-major city Bytantum. We should stock up on weaponry, armor and healing potions and herbs before going out again."
M:"You said it- i don't want to die. Hey- where did the weird guy and the doctor go?"
"I don't know, or care, as long as they're away from me."
M:"Dude! Harsh!"
There's just something about that guy and his creepy doctor that rubs me the wrong way."
M:"Whatevs. listen- take this gold, and go buy a few reserve items. The ones we have now are fine, but it's always good to have a backup plan. Also, as you said, get some healing items. Since neither of us can heal, it's best if we can stay in peak fighting condition for as long as we can."
Got 5000 gold
"Thanks man. I know exactly where to buy stuff. M-BAY!"
M:"M-Bay? WTF IS THAT?!?"
looking exasperated, Td260 shakes his head.
"It stands for merchant bay. It's a section of the merchant area in every village where, if you know the right people or have the right card, you can get into a secret auction house for buying new inventions or special weapons from across the seas for much cheaper than retail price."
M: "Er... good luck with that."

Faustus fell from the spacial tunnel, into the room with Volverein and a captive emo soldier, in time to hear Volverien needing a 'doctor.' Looking down at his bloody lab-coat, then back at the scene before him. Two bodyguards grabbed the doc by the arms, and brought him before Volverien. "Hm... you may be the doctor I need, Doctor..." he read the name-tag on his scrubs. "Faustus..." He turned to a servant. "Any record of resistance involvement?"
"No sir. However, he is criminally insane, and sadistic, and was last seen killing at least one hundred of our soldiers escaping from a nuthouse with a noted enemy of the state."
"Guards, leave him to do his work." Volverine and his servants left, watching from a window.
As sadistic and insane as the doctor was, he was smart, and tactical, and as much as it pained him to let the emo soldier live, killing him would be counteractive to his plan of getting out of here. No doubt Volverein would keep him here, and this soldier would be the best chance of escape. Leaning in he whispered "If I help you get out, you get me out!" He straightened up, and drove his knife into the shoulder of the soldier, for Volverein's audience, meanwhile healing it with his own medicine, as a show of good faith. This show took all of the doctor's will, not to kill the vulnerable soldier. I'll kill him later he promised himself.

they walked, and walked ,and walked until they came to a crater in the ground

"well here it is" Keith slid down the slope and opened the hatch.
"you need anymore proof?"

While Ephraim was making his decent something shifted in the air and he became rather uneasy. He couldn't see that far away, but as he got closer, he noticed that there were two humans that were shuffling around the tent. One was female the other male. He smiled rather viciously since there were only two of them. This was gonna make things almost too easy. Of course, it would have, if they were just regular adventurers like he assumed.

His eyes widened a bit as the man pulled out a gun. "Obviously they are no mere traveling family. Why are they up here..." He snarled to himself, going down a bit slower now, trying to keep an eye on the man.

Since he was pointing a gun right at him, Ephraim presumed he didn't intend on missing. And he wasn't going to try and side with luck today and hope it missed. As soon as the shot was fired, the man vanished in thin air.

No, he didn't actually teleport. He moved so fast in one direction is appeared as though he did. In reality, he moved over to the left maybe a couple hundred feet to confuse his sniper friend. He was now wearing a most crooked smile as he was only yards from the bottom. The storm over head, notably, was getting worse.
